Mr. Musser Short Biography

     Mr. Musser was born and raised in rural, southwestern Pennsylvania.  The long, cold, and snowy winters and living only one mile away from a ski area led him to winter sports.  He started skiing at six years of age.  Mr. Musser graduated from high school in Pennsylvania and moved to Utah to attend the University of Utah and pursue a successful professional skiing career.  He graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in Spanish Teaching and a minor degree in Mathematics.  After graduating college, he continued to live in the nearby foothills of the mountains of Alta, UT and taught skiing professionally at the Alf Engen Ski School for twenty years.  During his ski teaching/coaching career, Mr. Musser taught over 10,000 people to ski.  Mr. Musser says his claim to fame is being rated “One of North America’s Top 100 Snow Sports Instructors” in SKIING magazine in 1997.  Mr. Musser lived and coached in Chilé, South America in the 90s.  Mr. Musser has worked with several Olympic athletes and other celebrities over the years.

      Mr. Musser moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2006 to attend Stanford University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Education and California Single-Subject Teaching Credentials in both Spanish and English.  Mr. Musser describes the role of the teacher as “a witness”.  He says, “not only does the teacher work with students to set goals, practice skills, and bring attention to improvement,… but a teacher is a witness to student successes as well as failures.  A good teacher can always remind students how much progress has been made and highlight specific areas in which the student has improved, mastered skills, and grown as an individual as well as specific areas for improvement.  When students and teachers both recognize growth from one year to the next, it helps make achievement real and fosters further growth.  As a language teacher, Mr. Musser always encourages students to focus on the process of learning rather than on outcomes.  Work hard every day and the results (success) will surely follow.  Learning languages is fun!
